Eclipse is finally here; here’s what’s happening on the path

Festivities of all sorts began over the weekend and will culminate today with the actual viewing of the eclipse, which will reach totality in Little Rock starting at 1:51 p.m. and ending at 1:54 p.m. A partial eclipse will begin at 12:33 p.m., and, following totality, the sun will again be partially shaded by the moon until 3:11 p.m. Here is a last-minute guide to help make this a safe and fun historic event.

While thousands of Arkansas students will be out of class during today's total eclipse, some school districts in or near the path of totality still plan to be in session. However, those districts have worked hard to ensure their students have an opportunity to safely watch — and learn from — the rare spectacle. 

Eclipse gives scientists opportunity to make discoveries

HOT SPRINGS — The public can take part in helping NASA scientists learn more about eclipses during today's total solar eclipse, NASA's Kristen Weaver told attendees at a talk at the Garland County Library on Thursday.

Device in Little Rock will let the blind experience eclipse

Allyson Bieryla was one of many out-of-towners in Little Rock's SoMa neighborhood Sunday afternoon. She not only in-state to experience today's solar eclipse but also on-hand to showcase a device that uses sonification to convert light into sound, allowing those who are blind or visually-impaired the opportunity to experience eclipses.
