The Airport Commission has tapped a senior official at the Washington, D.C.-area airports authority to replace the late Bryan Malinowski as the executive director of the Little Rock airport.

Commissioners voted 6-0, with one position vacant, to hire Steven Baker after interviewing him and six other finalists.

Baker is the vice president of business administration and deputy vice president of revenue innovation for the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, which is responsible for Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport and Washington Dulles International Airport.

Vice Mayor Kathy Webb yesterday criticized the city's current efforts to enforce the regulations that apply to short-term rental properties.

Webb, whose ward is home to many of the short-term rentals that have been approved so far, argued that lax enforcement leads residents to "feel like the city is siding with out-of-town owners who have no real stake in our city and our neighborhoods."

Her comments nearly coincided with the one-year anniversary of the approval of a municipal ordinance establishing new rules for operators who list properties on Airbnb or similar platforms.
