If you're like me, you probably woke up to some apocalyptic-sounding weather in the early morning hours as storms moved through the Little Rock area.

An EF2 tornado hit Garland County overnight, the National Weather Service has confirmed, and more severe weather has been predicted in the state later today. Visit our website for the latest.

Mayor Frank Scott Jr.'s latest sales-tax proposal would add five-eighths percent (0.625%) to the city's rate for capital improvements with a 10-year sunset date along with a permanent three-eighths percent (0.375%) increase for operations.

If approved by voters this November, the overall rate in the city would rise to 9.625% when accounting for state, county and local sales taxes.

The mayor discussed the proposal at a community forum last week, the first of seven sessions that are scheduled to take place in each of the city's wards.

One significant revision has to do with the location of indoor and outdoor sports facilities.

Scott's previous proposal called for constructing the sports facilities at War Memorial Park; the new version anticipates placing the outdoor sports complex in west Little Rock and the indoor sports complex in the downtown area near the Clinton Presidential Center.
