Welcome to Sunday’s Cats.com Newsletter. |
Cats may not hold grudges in the same way people do, but that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t respect their emotions. In today’s mailer, we’ll talk about when you might need to apologize to your cat and how to do it correctly. |
Also, time is running out to ensure Tater’s recovery from a painful eye condition! Read to the end for an update on our fundraising efforts and Tater’s condition. |

Your Cat Deserves Some Empathy. |
We may not understand exactly what our cats are thinking, but they provide plenty of clues about their emotional state if you pay attention. Forming a strong bond with your cat improves your ability to interpret their body language and to detect changes in behavior that might indicate a problem. |
Having a strong bond with your cat can also enable you to be proactive in situations they find upsetting. For example, you’ll be more likely to know when you’ve done something to hurt or offend them. The first step in making an apology is realizing when it’s needed. |

Signs You Own Your Cat an Apology. |
There are many ways you might offend your cat, from changing up their routine or environment to accidentally causing them fear, pain, or stress. But how can you tell when you owe your cat an apology? Here are some signs: |
They’re twitching or thumping their tail. They look away when you speak to them. They’re hissing or acting aggressively. Their fur is puffed out or their ears are flattened. They’re hiding or running away from you.

Remember, every cat has a unique personality. The better you know your cat, the more easily you’ll be able to tell when something changes. |
|
Here’s How to Apologize to Your Cat. |
If you think you owe your cat an apology, don’t rush to make amends — wait until they’ve calmed down and approach with caution. Here’s how to do it: |
1) Approach your cat when they’re feeling calm and comfortable. |
2) Speak in a soothing tone of voice, gently petting your cat if they’ll accept it. |
3) Offer your cat a tasty treat (go for something special like lickable cat treats). |
|
4) Spend some quality time playing with your cat (or grooming, if they prefer). |
5) Reestablish your cat’s daily routine as soon as possible. |
Finally, don’t beat yourself up over your mistake. The good news is that your cat is unlikely to have any lasting memory of a single offense — especially if life quickly returns to the comfort of a consistent routine. |

TATER NEEDS HELP TO PREVENT VISION LOSS |
How would you feel if one of your vital senses was rapidly deteriorating? Now imagine you’ve also lost your home and have found yourself in an unfamiliar place, surrounded by strangers — and you’re in pain. Tater doesn’t have to imagine. |
|
This 5-year-old cat is facing permanent vision loss caused by a painful eye condition called entropion. To make matters worse, he’s also developed yeast infections in both ears. |
Despite the discomfort of having to wear an e-collar and the pain of his eye condition, Tater’s caregivers report that he remains in good spirits during treatment. He’s sweet and gentle to his core — truly deserving of a fresh start in life. |
Will you help us make sure Tater gets the corrective eye surgery he needs to fully recover? We’re getting closer to our $1,600 goal. Donate here. |
