My heart thumped as we searched through the woods for my older sister. Concern sounded in my parents’ voices as they yelled my sister’s name. When she didn’t answer, their faces filled with worry.
Of course, my imagination ran wild as I thought of the stories I’d heard over the years about hikers getting lost or even attacked by a bear or mountain lion. My sister and I were in our early teens but had learned to respect the wilderness, and the idea of an animal attack or losing our way still terrified us.
