Town’s next ‘Shred-A-Thon’ is on June 14

The Town of Cutler Bay’s next “Shred-A-Thon” event will take place on Friday, June 14, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Cutler Bay Town Center, South Parking Lot, in an effort to fight against identity theft. A similar event took last year in June. “It is designed to be a resource for the community,” said Paola Perez, Events & Programs Specialist for the Department of Parks & Recreation.
According to information from town staff, someone’s identity is stolen every two seconds. Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida Receives First Federal Dollars for Camp Mahachee Restoration Project

Girl Scouts of Tropical Florida (GSTF) is proud to announce the Camp Mahachee Hardwood Hammock Restoration project is the recipient of $450,000 in federal funding as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2024. The monies are allocated for the continued restoration of the 11-acre hardwood hammock habitat, a GSTF property located in Coral Gables. The funding was secured in March of 2024 by Representative María Elvira Salazar (R-FL), with support from Government Relations and Community Affairs teams at Nicklaus Children’s Health System as part of $23 million dollars Congresswoman Salazar secured in government appropriations for critical projects in Miami-Dade County.

Rotarians take to sea for district conference and day of service

District 6990 Rotarians, an international district that includes Nassau, Grand Bahamas, boarded the Celebrity Reflection for a weekend cruise on May 3. The conference included two volunteer service projects in Nassau with the local Rotarians while the ship docked there on May 5th. While several Rotarians volunteered to help clear fields in a nature preserve, others participated with a promotional video to bring about awareness for human trafficking in downtown Nassau. The two groups later joined for a boxed lunch and tour at the preserve followed by a bus ride back to city center for some liquor infused ice cream at a shop owned by a local Rotarian who donated a portion of the day’s proceeds to the human trafficking awareness campaign effort.
