We’re now in the midst of Lent. Â
During this time, Christians are called to practice abstinence leading up to Easter.
Traditionally, we deprive ourselves of food—in the days of old, Christians limited themselves to one full meal per day—but today the Church also encourages us to identify things or habits that have a hold on us and give them up: whether good, like your morning cup of coffee, or bad, like doomscrolling Twitter.Â
This is a masculine practice that trains us to be in control of ourselves, to not be attached to worldly things, and to become virtuous.Â
The online world of today loves to adopt surface-level pseudo-spirituality.
People use metaphysical and religious concepts as little trinkets; cute accessories to adorn their personality with, that inevitably become discarded once they’ve outworn their shine.
Morning affirmations, midday tarot readings, followed by evening manifestation rituals...
Who knew spiritual growth could be so seamless!
Of course, true faith is not so easy.
True faith requires sacrifice.Â
We must leave behind the comforts of home, vice, and childlike avoidance to answer the call to leadership.
With that...
