The Saga of Diddy Just Got More Disturbing
The saga of Sean 'Diddy' Combs continued this weekend, and it just got more disturbing.
After CNN released a hotel security footage video of Combs beating his then-girlfriend Cassandra "Cassie" Ventura in 2016, Combs posted a response to social media, saying he's "disgusted" with himself.
"It's so difficult to reflect on the darkest times in your life. Sometimes you got to do that. I was f****d up. I mean I hit rock bottom. But I make no excuses. My behavior on that video is inexcusable," Combs said in the video.
He went on to say, "I take full responsibility for my actions in that video. I'm disgusted. I was disgusted then when I did it. I'm disgusted now."
Clearly his version of disgusted means previously denying these allegations until faced with proof of his actions, and then saying how "disgusted" he is. "Disgusted" over a video Combs allegedly paid the hotel $50,000 to keep it hidden. "Disgusted" that he could use his wealth and fame to cover up a brutal beating?
I'm speaking for myself here, but as a child of mother who experienced physical abuse, that video triggered every single person who has ever been the victim of or has witnessed domestic abuse. It brings you back to all those moments you worked so hard to not think about. And then the abuser drops a video that we're supposed to have sympathy for? Even though he previously categorically denied the abuse allegations Ventura made in her civil lawsuit she brought against him. (That suit was settled, but considering the video the world just saw, it's clear why Ventura settled.)
Unfortunately, Combs won't face any charges for his actions in the video. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office released a statement on the matter.
"We are aware of the video that has been circulating online allegedly depicting Sean Combs assaulting a young woman in Los Angeles. We find the images extremely disturbing and difficult to watch. If the conduct depicted occurred in 2016, unfortunately we would be unable to charge as the conduct would have occurred beyond the timeline where a crime of assault can be prosecuted."
Isn't that just great? It's amazing the things money can help you hide. But one thing Combs can't buy is public perception. After that video, no matter how "disgusted" Combs is, his career is over. And I think we're all OK with that, right?

It got me thinking, we've never seen a rise to stardom for an out gay actor like we're watching with Bailey, whom you know from shows like Bridgerton and Fellow Travelers. He's also the male lead in the forthcoming Wicked. It's wild to watch, and something to take note of. He's able to be the sex symbol for seemingly everybody, like he's able to be the internet's boyfriend without compromising who he is. And it's not hurting his career one bit. In fact, it was just announced he'll lead the new Jurassic Park movie. Take note of this one. It's big.
