Hot Takes: Eurovision Drama, Students Protest Seinfeld and More

The biggest hot take for today is the drama around Eurovision last weekend. Normally the news of the first nonbinary winner of the Eurovision Song Contest would make news, but because of all the other controversies out of this year's Eurovision, Switzerland's Nemo's win is barely the only top story. It began when Dutch performer Joost Klein, a favorite to win, was disqualified before the competition for being accused of making threats against a female member of the production. But then all eyes seemed to turn towards Israel's Eden Golan.

There were calls to ban Isarel's participation in the competition because of Israel's military offensive against Hamas, which organizers refused to do, leaving 20-year-old Eden Golan to receive the brunt of the very vocal critics. She was greeted with both boos and applause during her performance. Even though she didn't win, Israel did place fifth in the overall competition, to the cheers and jeers of many.

But ultimately it was Nemo's colorful performance that gave everybody the distraction they needed to take the win with their song "The Code." The 24-year-old singer, who wrote the song about coming to terms with their identity, used their victory speech to address the overall tone of this year's Eurovision.

"I hope this contest can live up to its promise and continue to stand for peace and dignity for every person in this world," Nemo said.

• Students at Duke University's graduation found nothing funny about Jerry Seinfeld's involvement as commencement speaker. When the comedian got up to speak, several students walked out as a pro-Palestinian protest. Seinfeld has been a vocal supporter of Israel.

• Did you catch Maya Rudolph on Saturday Night Live? The Mother's Day episode became an instant classic with the SNL alum doing a hilarious musical monologue and once again playing Beyonce in a sketch. She was perfect.

• The battle of the diss tracks continued this weekend, but this time it's not Drake vs Kendrick Lamar, but rather Sean "Diddy" Combs's son King Combs vs 50 Cent. On the track, King Combs addresses the sexual assault allegations he and his father are facing in a lawsuit and went after 50 Cent, who has been a vocal critic of Diddy. In fact, 50 Cent responded to the track on Instagram, mocking the song by saying, "I feel so threatened by the things Christian is saying on his record. I'm afraid for my life, please don't hurt me guys."

• Amid Olivia Munn's recovery from breast cancer, the actress announced she also went under a preventive hysterectomy. She previously underwent a double mastectomy, among other procedures, to prevent the spread of breast cancer. She told Vogue exclusively that she made the decision for the hysterectomy because, "I needed to be present for my family." Munn shares a child with comedian John Mulaney.

Meghan Markle could expand her creative vision to transform her American Riviera Orchard brand into a thriving social hub for Hollywood's elite, a new episode of Newsweek's The Royal Report podcast has discussed.

Though the duchess has shown no hard plans to do so, the brand, which so far has yet to develop its output beyond 50 jars of strawberry jam and a number of trademark applications, has the potential to grow in the private members club sector, chief royal correspondent, Jack Royston, has suggested.

Meghan soft launched American Riviera Orchard back in March, with her jam jar PR strategy being unveiled in April. Fifty of the duchess' close associates and contacts received jars which a number posted to their millions of followers on social media.
