The results are in...

U.S. President Joe Biden made headlines last week for taking aim at corporations for artificially inflating food prices.

So we asked:
Who / what is responsible for high grocery prices?

And you answered:

  • Inflation (57%)
  • CPG companies (23%)
  • Grocers (13%)
  • Other, tell us in the comments (7%)

And you said:

Daniel Bell, Director of Produce
The fact that he went out and said that just tells you how absolutely out of touch him and his party are with what actually goes into the cost of goods. I wonder why he’s not calling out the gas companies or power companies that are making record profits.

Justin Ankeney, Scan Coordinator at Fresh Thyme Market
I think that there are a lot of factors to consider here, including the grocers trying to cover operating and labor costs, the fact that food producers are also having to combat higher wages to retain employees, CPGs (especially publicly traded ones) as they are after the ever important profit dollars, inflation has its role in the higher prices, too. Don’t forget that growers are facing bad weather in California and elsewhere. You can't just pin it to just one cause; it’s a little of this a little of that.
