With financial advisors, tax professionals and their clients waiting until the end of next year to see what becomes of the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, trusts could be beneficial to estates right now.

A charitable remainder unitrust or annuity trust, a non-grantor trust or a grantor retained annuity trust may help some wealthy clients shield assets and pass them on to their heirs at a rate lower than the 40% haircut they might otherwise take on their estates, according to Aaron White, chief growth officer of Pleasanton, California-based Adero Partners
