July Dinners and Summer Help!

Hello friends!

All of our family dinners are special occasions, but our favorite just might be our annual July tradition: The Pantry’s Birthday Celebration! Join us on July 12 & 13 for a drink and a bite outside in the garden, and then follow us inside for a family-style feast to mark the Pantry’s 13th (!) birthday. We’re serving a summertime greatest hits collection of all of our favorite things, including sprinkles and presents. Pricing includes tip, a wine pairing with each savory course, and tea or coffee with dessert. This year’s menu will include:

Grilled Summer Squash with Pepita Romesco, Goat Cheese, and Chili Oil

Garlic Scape Hush Puppies with Charred Jalapeno Crema

Bourbon-Glazed Chicken Wings with Fried Peanuts

Green Bean and Scallion Slaw

Grilled Pork Chops with Carrot Butter

Charred Corn and Crispy New Potatoes with Leek and Black Pepper Vinaigrette

Fresh Heirloom Tomatoes, Fried Green Tomatoes, Pickled Cherry Tomatoes

Basil Vinaigrette

Roasted Strawberry Pavlova

Sweet Corn Meringue and Whipped Mascarpone

Needless to say, we wouldn’t have made it to 13 without the support of our community — we can’t wait to see you there! Meanwhile there’s plenty else going on this summer in addition to our birthday festivities. On July 14 we’re hosting our next Cookbook Club Potluck Supper, featuring the book Bethlehem by Fadi Kattan. You’ll cook a recipe from the book and bring enough to share, and we’ll host the gathering and pour the wine (and do the dishes!).

But before all that fun begins, June has some awesomeness on the horizon. We’re now using our kitchen to cook for the Ballard Food Bank every other month, and this Wednesday we prepared enough food to feed 600 people! These days are some of the most joyous for our team, and we’re continually impressed seeing so many trays of tasty meals leave our kitchen for our neighbors. On June 17, Darin Gagner from Valley Sharp will be with us for his monthly knife sharpening services, so send him an email to keep your home knives happy. We still have a few spots in our Taste of the Philippines dinner with Jay Guerrero on June 22, so don’t miss out on the chance to taste his short rib kare kare and Marianna’s take on halo halo! And just over the horizon: we’re hiring an assistant to help out with our Summer season Kids’ Camps. If you’d like to help us prepare the next generation of cooks, please send us an email to [email protected]!

Thank you for 13 years of support and community!
