September & October Classes are Here!

Hello friends!

Our summer schedule is ramping up, and last week the kitchen was full of kids cooking their way through regional American cuisine in our first Kids Camp session of the season. But since we know summer won’t last forever, we’ve just released our September & October classes on our website! With lots of fresh faces in our kitchen, this fall has plenty of new classes in the lineup! Latifa Ben Brahim makes her debut with The Moroccan Home Kitchen, and Nicco Muratore joins us for a Homemade Miso and Koji Workshop. Jee Hye Kang is teaching us about traditional Korean Banchan and Bibimbap, and Rasyidah Rosli takes us on a tour of Indonesian Street Food. Vindi Rathnayake is cooking up a staff favorite: Sri Lankan Hoppers, and Prajakta Patil is sharing the food of her childhood in Exploring India: Mumbai.

The end of summer and start of fall is a season of bountiful produce, and several of our classes are diving deep into what’s being harvested. Bruce Naftaly is sharing his love for Mushrooms of the Pacific Northwest, and Jonathan Silverberg celebrates pepper season in Contemporary Southwest. October is when sesame season kicks off, and Nadia Tommalieh is showing us how to make the most of it in The Arab Pantry: Tahini, while Omid Roustaei explores one of the world’s most famous fall spices in Flavors of Iran: Saffron. And since sometimes the best way to enjoy the season is to do it outdoors, we’ve got a couple of field trips in the mix! In September we’re heading to Local Color Farm and Fiber, where we’ll harvest straight from the garden and make colors in Field Trip: Natural Dyeing. And in October Nicco Muratore takes us into the woods to collect fungi in Field Trip: Mushroom Foraging.

As always, there’s baking classes to stretch your skills! Vindi Rathnayake is teaching us about pâte sablée in Classic Tarts, and Pamela Arriagada is showing us how to roll out yards of paper-thin dough in her Strudel Workshop. Marianna Stepniewski fires up the ovens for Central European Breads and Detroit-Style Pizza, and Gino Garcia is helping us celebrate dios de los muertos in The Mexican Bakery: Pan de Muerto. And since October marks the start of cozy season, we’ve got some comforting classes to keep us happy. Sarah Monson is hosting a classic French dinner in Julia Child’s Table, and Stefan Milne is dishing up Hungarian Comfort Food. Nothing says cozy like cheese, so Marie is livening up the kitchen with a Swiss Fondue Party, and Courtney Johnson gives us a tour of her favorite regional cheeses in The Cheese Course: Italy.

Also, for the month of August we’re hosting a school supplies drive for WA-BLOC! The community need has never been greater, and we invite you to help us make sure kids have what they need to thrive in school. Thank you all for being a part of our community — we look forward to cooking with you!
